状语从句中从句省略主语用非谓语

Although having a knowledge of Spanish,he attended the course.为何从句中可以省略主语,不是只有be形式的动词时,才省略主语和be动词的吗?

本句在 Although 之后不是省略了 he was，而是在表示让步意义的目前分词短语之前，特意加上 Although，以明确该目前分词短语表示“让步状语”。又如：

尽管这个青年作为一名艺术家获得了相当大的成功，但他仍然努力工作。
